Registration for free flu vaccination in Vienna starts Monday

Vienna is starting registrations for its free flu vaccination at the city’s vaccination centers on Monday. Vaccinations will then begin on Nov. 2.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Health warned of the first influenza cases in Austria and recommended early immunization against the flu.

In Vienna, it is possible to register for the flu vaccination campaign in the municipal vaccination centers as early as Monday at 12:00 either online at impfservice.wien or by calling 1450. About half of the 400,000 vaccine doses will be given in the municipal vaccination centers or the vaccination centers of the ÖGK, the other half in private practices. The city says it has budgeted 9.9 million euros for the free campaign.

Vienna’s politicians warn of strong flu wave in winter
Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) warned, “This year, experts expect a strong wave of influenza.” City Health Councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) drew attention to the fact that there was again the opportunity “to be vaccinated against both influenza and COVID-19 at a single appointment. Vienna Public Health Service publishes weekly influenza reporting statistics
During the flu season, the Public Health Service (MA 15) provides information on flu activity in the federal capital. Weekly flu reporting statistics from the Vienna Flu Reporting Service are updated on Tuesdays, and data from the previous week are displayed graphically. The service is part of a network that monitors Austria’s annual course of influenza. The service receives its data over several months starting in October from so-called Sentinella reporting physicians. With 9,950 cases projected for calendar week 40, this is the strongest start to the “flu season” in the past five years.
